WHY WE STAY
I Woke Up This Morning
My Toes Were Cold
Of Course I Just Figured
It's Cause I'm Old
You Know Circulation
Does Tend To Slow
As The Birthdays Increase
And The Numbers Grow
But Today Just Seemed Different
I Took A Hot Shower
It Felt Like I Lingered
For Almost An Hour
I Stepped Out And Dryed Off
All Shiny And Clean
But It Didn't Take Long
I Was Still The " Ice Queen "
As I Readied For Work
I Turned On The Tube
And Then It Made Sense
We Were All An Ice Cube
The Warnings Were Beeping
Across The T.V.
It Was -40 Below
Not The Wind Chill You See

An Arctic Blast Moved In
Took Over Control
While I Slept Counting Sheep
They Were Shoveling Coal

As I Headed For Work
And Left My Warm Home
The Ground Creaked And Groaned
Like Walking On Foam
My Car Had A Few Things
To Share With Me Too
As It Growled Very Slowly
Like It Swallowed Some Glue

We Made It To Work
Through Clouds Of Exhaust
Like A "White Out" Of Ethanol
Coated In Frost
As I Waited On Tables
Throughout This Cold Day
I Wondered (?) Why People
Would Live Life This Way
Your Nostrils Freeze Shut
Just Inhaling Outside
So You Race To Your Car
Like In There You Can Hide

I Sometimes Just Think
That In Weather Like This
It's Just GOD Helping Out
The Cold Weather Biz'
But If Truth Would Be Told
As The "Old Timers" Say;
"It Just Keeps Out The Riff~Raff
And That's Why We Stay"
