Hummingbirds
In The spring of the year
The Hummingbirds return
Tired from the flight, some
sweet food they do yearn...
A feeder set out to give them
some food, which they
desperately need from their
long, long flight.
When the feeder began to leak,
Now what is their plight?
Will they patiently wait til
the feeder's replaced?
The thought that they will
puts a smile on my face.
A peck on the window in the dark, dark night.
Looking out to see, oh my what a sight...
My Hummingbird friends, as if to say,
"Lady, why did you take our food away?"
They return each year to
the home of their friend,
Just in time for spring to begin.
We often wonder, just how
they remember, but they
return each spring, and
leave again in October
or November...
Hours we spent together, just
my Hummingbird friends and me,
They seemed content, content as
could be.
As I talked to them, they cocked
their little heads as if to say.
"We understand what you're saying
we'll be back again another day."
Then the sad day came when I had to leave,
What will happen to my little friends
when they come back and see, that I am
not here where I used to be.
Directions were given to the home of a friend
who would love them and feed them, and
talk to them too, so my little friends
where ever you are, I still love you.
