MY NEW BEST FRIEND

TODAY I MET A GREAT  NEW  FRIEND
WHO  KNEW  ME  RIGHT  AWAY
IT  WAS  FUNNY  HOW  SHE  UNDERSTOOD
ALL I HAD TO SAY

SHE LISTENED TO MY PROBLEMS
SHE LISTENED TO MY DREAMS
WE TALKED ABOUT LOVE AND LIFE
SHE'D BEEN THERE, TOO, IT SEEMS

I NEVER ONCE FELT JUDGED BY HER
SHE KNEW JUST HOW I FELT
SHE SEEMED TO JUST ACCEPT ME
AND THE PROBLEMS I'D BEEN DEALT

SHE DIDN'T INTERRUPT ME 
OR NEED TO HAVE HER SAY 
SHE JUST LISTENED VERY PATIENTLY
AND DIDN'T GO AWAY

I WANTED HER TO UNDERSTAND
HOW MUCH THIS MEANT TO ME
BUT AS I WENT TO HUG HER
SOMETHING STARTLED ME

I PUT MY ARMS IN FRONT OF ME
AND WENT TO PULL HER NEARER
AND REALIZED THAT MY NEW BEST FRIEND
WAS NOTHING BUT A MIRROR...

Throughout our lifetime we have many best friends.
When we meet a new friend, it does not mean we have to give up our old friends. God is our best friend who is with us at all times. He sometimes lets us experience bad times, heartache and fear, but in the end, we always know that he is near.

Each experience that we go through, whether good or bad, seems to make us a stronger person in the end. If we never experienced anything bad, how  would we know to appreciate the good that we have?

One of the best friends that we will ever have in our lifetime is our self....it is up to us to decide what path we will take in our life's journey. We may stumble and fall along that journey, but we always know that God,  our family and friends are there to  help us back up....
There are times when we may have to lean on our family and friends for strength and courage to get through bad times.....

We have to learn to love ourselves before we can be a person who will be loved by others.
When we can look in that mirror, and know that we are leading a good life and are proud of who we are, that the person looking back at us is indeed a good friend, a friend who has stayed close by through it all.... 

Then we can turn to our friends and say...
When you need a best friend, you can

                   "LEAN ON ME"
