The years pass by so quickly A new one has just begun. We now begin celebrating the year two thousand one... May it be as good or better than the year that just passed by I am sure that it will be, but only if we try. Good friends to make us happy, our families by our side, The Lord above to help us He will be our guide To live our lives in hope and peace, help others along the way. To count our many blessings each and every day. To pray for peace among all mankind in our country and all the rest Let's begin with us and show them let's put them to the test. We are all created equal this we have always known God loves us all just the same This, He has always shown. Our riches come to all of us not through money or through fame It doesn't matter, win or lose it's how we play the game. So let's all make a resolution to live our lives in peace and let the love we show to all never ever cease. *Ziplo* © copy write 2001
A VERY Happy New Year to All!!! *Ziplo* "Auld Lang Syne" Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot And auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne. And surely, ye'll be your pint stowp! And surely I'll be mine! And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet, For auld lang syne. For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne. We twa hae mn about the braes And pou'd the gowans fine; But we've wander'd mony a weary foot Sin' auld lang syne. For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne. We two hae paidled i' the burn, Frae morning sun till dine; But seas between us braid hae roar'd Sin' auld lang syne. For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne. And here's a hand, my trusty fiere, And gie's a hand o' thine; And we'll tak' a right gude-willy waught, For auld lang syne. For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne.
This song is Scottish which I was not aware of.... This song is from Robert Burns or Robbi Burns if you are Scottish. He is the national bard of Scotland, and is celebrated every year throughout the country at "Burns Suppers". This song is usually sung just after new years when a bagpipe player (or more commonly know as a piper) comes into the place of celebration be it a hall or whatever playing his bagpipes usually in full highland dress. He plays a traditional song and when he finishes playing everyone joins hands in a circle, usually with the hands crossed over the chest, and they all sing Auld Lang Syne. The Scots also have another new years tradition which they call first footing. To bring good luck to the home in the coming year, the first man through the door right after new years strikes must be a dark haired man and he brings with him a loaf of bread so that the household never goes hungry, a lump of coal so it is never without fuel and a few coins so they are never without funds. These are given to the householder. This person cannot live in the house but may be a relative. If there is no relative available a friend or perhaps a" professional" firstfooter is hired.
New Years Eve is called Hogmanay in Scotland, and is a very very special time for all Scots.
